Day 11 - Birdsville, QLD to Mungerannie, SA

We watched the royal flying doctor fly in to Birdsville this morning. They only visit every two weeks so we were lucky to see them land!

We packed up and left the motel, heading to the Birdsville Bakery in the hope of having some bacon and eggs for breakfast. The Bakery had run out of bacon and as we we ordering our eggs, they ran out of eggs too! So we ended up with toast again :-)

We bought some sweets (lamingtons and custard tarts) to take with us on the road and then headed back to the Birdsville pub to do a geocache, buy some souvenirs and take some more photos of the pub!

We started heading off to our next destination, Marree SA, with plans to stay at Mungerannie along the way.
Not too much happened on the road, we saw a lot of emus and kangaroos and a bike rider! It is going to take this guy at least a week to reach Mungerannie.

And we saw an old car haha!

We came across the Birdsville Track sign so had to pose the cars for some photos :-)

We stopped for lunch near some old cattle yards and I ate my delicious lamington!

We continued on and came across a couple of big mud holes. They were quite deep and covered the cars in mud! I couldn't see a thing out the window when we went through them!

Muddy cars!

After driving for a bit more, we came across a car we saw at Big Red yesterday. A wheel had fallen off their trailer and they were stuck. We helped them find the tyre and James and Dad tried to help the man and his friend fix the wheel. Something had happened to the bearings in the tyre and had to be replaced but no one really knew how to do it.

After much fussing, they managed to put the wheel back on the trailer so we left and headed on to Mungerannie. There is nothing at Mungerannie except a pub and a campground.
There were campers everywhere! Including a whole bunch of people from Birdsville. We found a spot to set up camp and watched the sunset. There was some awesome looking clouds around too. You could see a lightening storm in the distance which lasted most of the night.

After dinner we headed to the pub for a drink.
The pub is a great little place. It had a real bush charm to it. I really enjoyed sitting in the pub, talking to all the travelers in there.

Spiderman was even in the pub! Haha

We went back to our campsite and saw rats running around in the bushes next to our tent! Yuck! They were bush rats though, not like ones in the city, but still they were not nice haha. We made sure we put everything that want zipped in the tent in the car so the rodents wouldn't get to them.

Next stop tomorrow, Marree, SA! (or maybe Leigh Creek).
